Two Russian gay activists were pelted with eggs on Wednesday while leaving a Saint Petersburg court house after a hearing of their complaint against local anti-gay legislation.

‘Two women with signs ‘Don’t touch our children’ were yelling ‘Paederasts!’ and ‘Perverts!’ while young men with covered faces threw eggs,’ one of the victims of the attack, Mr Yury Gavrikov, told AFP.

Mr Gavrikov and Mr Nikolai Alexeyev, both leaders of GayRussia movement, were exiting the building after the court examined their defamation complaint against local lawmaker Vitaly Milonov.

Mr Milonov is one of the authors of a controversial law passed in Saint Petersburg last month which makes ‘gay propaganda’ an offence punishable with a fine.
