The Bioethics Commission advocates the approval of fertilisation for lesbian couples and single women. The Constitutional Court is currently considering a corresponding prohibition.

The Bioethics Commission at the Federal Chancellery advocates the approval of fertilisation for lesbian couples and single women. The Constitutional Court is currently examining the appropriate ban at the request of the Supreme Court and had requested an opinion of the Bioethics Commission to do so. With a decision of the Supreme Court may be to be expected in the autumn.

Legal situation

The reproduction medicine law stipulates: "A medically assisted reproduction is permitted only in a marriage or cohabitation of persons of different sex." Thus, same-sex couples may be no artificial insemination in claims. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing the law.
