More than 280,000 sufferers of HIV/AIDS are receiving antiretrovirals with support from the government and foreign organisations in Mozambique, the Health Ministry said.

A document released on Tuesday by the ministry said the number surpassed the goal set by the government to cover 240,000 people countrywide with the number of health units distributing the drugs rising to 261.

The Mozambican National Council for the Fight against AIDS said the number of children who receive the drugs has increased to 23,018, Xinhua news agency reported.
