Pope Benedicto XVI stressed today that the union between a man and a woman in marriage is the only "decent place" to bring the world to a new human being, procreation that said, it is the expression of the biological and spiritual union of the spouses.
The Pontiff addressed the issue of procreation during an audience at the Vatican with participants of the 18th General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for life, which takes place from Thursday and until today under the motto "Diagnosis and therapy of infertility".
"The search for a diagnosis and a therapy represents the scientifically more correct approach to the issue of infertility, but also that mostly respectful to integral humanity of the involved subjects", said Benedicto XVI.
"In fact, the union of man and woman in this community of love and life which is marriage is the only worthy 'place' for the call to the existence of a new human being, which is always a gift," he added.
Benedict praised the work of the scientists who remain "awake his spirit of truth-seeking, at the service of the true good of man", avoiding the "scientism and the logic of profit" which, according to the Pope, seems to now dominate the field of infertility and human procreation, "bringing even many other research areas".
"Human and Christian dignity of procreation, in fact, is not a 'product', but its link to the conjugal act, expression of the love of spouses, their marriage not only biological, but also spiritual," said the Pontiff.
"The legitimate aspirations of paternity of the couple who is in a condition of infertility have, therefore, to find, with the help of science, an answer that fully respects their dignity as persons and spouses," he added.
The Pontiff wanted to remember those who suffer infertility but nonetheless its double vocation is it to be frustrated and encouraged to research medical so keep it moving, because "science is not always able to respond to the wishes of many couples".
And launched also a message to scientists: "not never yield to the temptation of trying the good of the people, reducing it to a mere technical problem. The indifference of the consciousness toward the truth and the good represents a dangerous threat to real scientific progress".
